Workshop in Nordhausen Brings Together Local Stakeholders around the Fast & Fair Principles
On May 6, 2026, a workshop titled “Faster and Fairer Pathways to Renewable Energy” took place at the Bürgerhaus in Nordhausen, Germany. Representatives from municipalities, counties, energy agencies, and energy cooperatives gathered to discuss approaches for accelerating renewable energy projects, while ensuring fairness for all.
The workshop focused on the practical application of the “Fast & Fair” principles based on a shared understanding of fairness across different sectors. The goal is to support municipalities in designing local projects more harmoniously and addressing diverse interests at an early stage.
Organized by ICLEI Europe and Transformati.on 2050 gGmbH, with support from the State Energy Agency of Saxony-Anhalt and the Thuringia Energy and Green Tech Agency, the event offered a hand-on schematic, structured along the typical phases of renewable energy projects.
A key element of the workshop was the presentation of a “Fast & Fair” checklist, designed as a practical tool for municipalities to assess and shape projects. This was complemented by expert inputs and discussions on topics such as early and meaningful stakeholder engagement, sound financial participation models, nature positive approaches and the potential of public procurement for nurturing fair renewables projects.
The workshop was the first Fast & Fair event specifically designed for local stakeholders and provides a blueprint for similar activities in both Germany and other EU Member States going forward.
