Research project on the agricultural value of solar parks
This nationwide study authored by researchers at Universities of Göttingen & Cologne and Association of Energy Market Innovators (bne) investigates the relationship between solar park installations on former agricultural land and the boost of biodiversity immediately after commissioning them across Germany and Denmark. By providing pesticide-free habitats and microclimates, these sites support hundreds of species, including endangered birds and bats. The results position solar farms as "High Nature Value Farmland," acting as vital ecological building blocks. This research focuses on the synergy between renewable energy and habitat protection, supporting national biodiversity goals. Finally, the study advocates for tailored, flexible maintenance to preserve these long-term benefits.
